For whatever reason I have been getting a lot of questions on this one since we put the news blog up on bbcolorlabs.com. No, we have not given up on LabPrints. I don't think that LabPrints has given up on us. I think that they spend a lot less time listening and I think that they have no interest in talking to me, but that doesn't mean anything. Their software works. Their latest improvements really are killer. I would love for them to add a few things, but the program is solid and full of features. No, we are not going to give up on LabPrints. Below are some of the questions that I have been emailed since the blog went up.
Q. Are you adding ROES?
A. Not at this time. ROES is an awful lot of money. We have hardware plans for 2006, other software priorities and a few things that I really can't talk about just yet. To fund ROES at this point would cause us to delay plans in other areas where we already have money on the table. ROES is not in the near (6 months) term plans. Second half of the year? I will only say that it is possible.
Q. Why don't you love ROES? Every lab has it.
A. Yes, damn near every lab has ROES. That is THE reason why I don't "love" it.
Q. If/when you add ROES will you drop LabPrints?
A. No! LabPrints is going nowhere. I love the software. Our customers that use it LOVE the software. LabPrints is going nowhere. We are firmly a LabPrints lab and will stay that way.
Q. What's with all of this ExpressDigital stuff?
A. We are a long time (2001) Labtricity lab. Being a huge user of the software in my own business as well as at the lab it was our first workflow software and it remains my favorite by far. I understand it far better than anything that we have now or have had in the past and it simply does everything that I need it to do.
Q. Copied/Pasted from an actual email — PhotoCenter? What the hell is that? Are you guys going consumer on me?
A. Deep sigh. I bought him a beer and he is fine now. Oddly enough he is a LabPrints user that is convinced that we are dropping LabPrints. PhotoCenter is a natural extension of the Labtricity software for us. Just "keeping our options open". So to speak.
More questions and answers later.
