It’s official, Windows XP will run on the new Intel based Mac computers. There is a hack, but now there is also an official Apple solution Boot Camp that enables BIOS support for the MacBook and iMac.
Here is photographic evidence:
From the Apple Boot Camp web page:
EFI and BIOS
Macs use an ultra-modern industry standard technology called EFI to handle booting. Sadly, Windows XP, and even the upcoming Vista, are stuck in the 1980s with old-fashioned BIOS. But with Boot Camp, the Mac can operate smoothly in both centuries
and this little blurb:
Word to the Wise
Windows running on a Mac is like Windows running on a PC. That means it’ll be subject to the same attacks that plague the Windows world. So be sure to keep it updated with the latest Microsoft Windows security fixes.
Seriously, I think this is a brilliant move by Apple. Not the ideal solution for me, but it is an excellent first start. I am hoping that Leopard will include virtualization, or the ability to run multiple operating systems at the same time.
