OK, Donovan told me that he would make corrections to the list. He did. He changed “Upload Multiple Galleries at Once” and that’s it. The fact remains that you can do all of the things from my previous post with Photoreflect. Ignoring these features in the service will not make them go away. If I were to do a list of my of my own like this I would add “Provides Workflow Software To Manage Jobs”. The features would look like this:
Upload to your Photoreflect storefront. <–No more FTP? Wow.
Manage and Archive Images. <–No more batching images? Wow.
Edit and Enhance Photos. <–Not so much Photoshop time? Neat.
Apply Graphic Templates. <–Huh? You can do that?
Create Limitless Print Packages. <–No more logging in?
Print to Professional Labs. <–I thought “they” were the only one.
No more batching images in to previews, no more uploading two copies of the same image for 2 different print sizes, no more FTP programs. None of it.
If you are happy with Exposure Manager that is great. I wish you well. Peace. Prosperity. God’s speed. But don’t run around using a list that is full of holes to sell your friends and neighbors on the service. Tell them why you love it. Tell them all about the features that is has that you use to make more money. But if you can’t stack up to the competition (which ExpMan doesn’t IMHO) don’t smoke up a list that ignores the features available elsewhere, plays up your 1999 cutting edge FTP upload system and try to make people think that you are something that you aren’t. Be who you are.
The reason that ExpressDigital and Photoreflect score so poorly on the ExpMan chart, and why he won’t come out and say it in public is beyond me, is that Donovan did his feature review on the old, outdated Photoreflect Publisher for the Mac. He is a Mac guy. He gave me the number. It was something like 30% (could have been more) of his users are Mac users. I think it is great that a company takes such an interest in meeting the needs of a group of customers (Mac users) like ExpMan does. Don’t hide behind a list. Come out of the closet and tell us who you really are; a Mac guy. That’s not such a bad thing you know.
I hope that ExpMan will do right by all of it’s Mac customers and come up with a workflow software that will make it easy for the Mac users to manage their workflow on their desktop. Something along the lines of Darkroom Web Edition is a good target to shoot at. Hell, get it in the neighborhood of the PrintRoom Photo Manager thing. That is better than nothing. Until they do, here is a great workflow software for all ExpMan users regardless of operating system. Open source. Mac, Linux and PC versions available. FileZilla FTP client.
